Episode 68 Why Junk Food Works with Kyle Kamp, RDN, LD

In 2017, I hiked over 2000 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail and learned a lot about what my body needs to perform. By the time I finished hiking, I had dialed in my food plan and it wasn’t exactly what you’d think it should be. It was basically junk food, but it worked. The thing is though, I didn’t know HOW or WHY it worked.

Kyle Kamp is a registered Dietitian and on this episode, he helps explain how the body processes food and why a “junk food” diet during extreme athletic events such as backpacking, thru-hiking, and hunting actually works. The food we eat directly impacts our experience in the backcountry and though you can certainly eat whatever you like, there are certain foods that work better than others in the name of peak performance.

Please enjoy this episode with Kyle Kamp!
