By Land Podcast

Welcome to the Podcast!

An interview-based podcast that explores the world of outdoor recreation, including topics such as backpacking, thru-hiking, hunting, mountaineering, nutrition, conservation, personal development, and more.

Most episodes are conversations with people from different walks of life and outdoor backgrounds, giving me the opportunity to learn from their experiences and perspectives. Other episodes are practical field notes on skills, gear, and lessons learned, while some are deeper reflections on ideas, questions, and observations from my own journey.

This podcast is a record of my time in the outdoors, what I'm learning, and what I continue to learn.

I hope each episode leaves you feeling inspired and encouraged to pursue whatever adventure you're dreaming of.

What People Are Saying

Emory is the most humble, level-headed, non-click baity, and underappreciated backpacking voice out there. Extremely interesting and diverse topics of conversation blended with an excellent, well-balanced and respectful delivery.

Really grateful for this podcast. After years of being at a desk, it's given me the kick I needed to get back out on the trails.

About the Show

I had about 100 miles to go on the Pacific Crest Trail when I decided to start a podcast when I got home. My heart was full and my mind overflowing with things I wanted to talk about, but more than anything, I wanted to stay close to the hiking community and continue learning from other hikers and other backcountry experts.

The idea was to use “backpacking” as a springboard to other outdoor-related topics. I figured that as long as my guest and I shared a love of the outdoors, we could find common ground, and it might just open the door to great conversations about outdoor gear, skills, stories, social issues, conservation, and everything in between.

I came home, bought the gear, taught myself what I needed to know to produce a podcast, and began reaching out to anyone willing to lend me their time for a conversation. Over 170 episodes later, I am as passionate as ever about the show. Each guest I have on inspires me to do better, get better, and keep going. This podcast has been one of the greatest blessings in my life.

I hope you find as much joy from these episodes as I did recording them.

Donate and Support

If you’re a regular listener, enjoy the show, and want to become a supporter, please consider making a one-time donation. I can promise you that 100% of each donation will go right back into operational costs so I can continue to bring you the same great content for years to come!

My ultimate dream is to have enough donors to be able to hire a production team to produce even more episodes.
