EP 111 What I Would Do Differently On The PCT

I wouldn’t change a single thing about my 2017 hike of the Pacific Crest Trail because what happened out there made it MY hike and I love it for what it was. That said, we can’t help but reflect on the things we’d do differently and I like to think of it as learning valuable lessons rather than being unhappy with various aspects of my hike.

I’ve had three years to digest my lessons learned and have come away with a short list of things I’d do differently if I had to do it all over again from scratch. Some are PCT specific, others are not. Even if you’re not planning on hiking the PCT or any other long trail, I think you’ll benefit from some of the items on my list.

To those who ARE planning a hike sometime down the road, know this - you’ll never be 100% ready and NOTHING will go as planned. You’re going to make mistakes along the way, but as long as you learn from them then that’s all that matters.
